ABOUT THE
BOOK: PURPOSE AND CHOICE

God is
supreme. He is omniscient, knowing the
future and everybody better than they
know themselves (Psalm 139:1-16; Matt.
6:7-8) God is the one who has made all
things for His pleasure (Col. 1:16).
Once He has not initiated something, He
will not take pleasure in it. That is
why the Bible records that His will must
be done on earth as it is in heaven.
That’s where the knowledge of His
purpose for you and His creation comes
in, so that we can Choose correctly, all
the time. The book discuss this,
bringing out the nature of God in
different dimensions, what hinders our
choosing right and the things God would
like us to do, if we are seeking to
please Him, all the time.
Reasons why
the topic is being discussed in the face
of the popular topics in vogue.
Chiefly, is
the issue of Purpose fulfilled in your
life; being how God measures value and
success.
Others: The
Omnipotent and Omniscient God is in
control; failure to abide by His will
(purpose) for a man will lead to trouble
and ultimate judgement.
Therefore,
the man who want to run and finish his
course like Paul needs to find out God’s
purpose for creation; God’s purpose for
him and how to pursue it.
Starts with
the original purpose of God for man, in
terms of provision and how man lost out
at the garden of God .
But the
nature of God demands that God redeems
man and continue with His original
plan. It goes forward to show the
constituency of God using the numerical
structure of the number 10.
Illustrations used are the 10 statements
that brought forth creation with
emphasis on the 10th
statement: Seed and Harvest.
We are then
told how God had given us the power of
volition and told to sow so that we can
harvest. 7 principles guiding Harvest
are then presented to show how to sow
and harvest.
The Ten
Generations of Corruption
There is
evil in the land; just where did it come
from? This is addressed as we see the 10
Generations of Cain: what they did and
their lifestyles.
This is
compared with the godly line started by
Seth up to Methuselah whose name was
discussed using the meaning to fore-warn
the judgement that came upon the
generation of Noah. The chapter closes
with a warning that as we are seeing the
deeds of the evil generation again, the
judgement that once ended it may just be
around the corner for this generation.
Ten
Generations of Promise
The issue of
consistency on the part of God comes to
play again as we see here the 10
generations that led to the birthing of
the Messiah.
As moral
conditions worsened, God began to warn
of judgement in the names, Methuselah,
Lamech with the promise of comfort in
the meaning of Noah. How Noah chose to
walk with God also set the standard for
us in terms of intercession and acting
on God’s instructions.
The
separation of the seeds of Noah in
Genesis 10 is presented next with a
linkage to Abraham who also featured in
the next 10 generations.
Different
Facets of the Glory of God is discussed
with the purpose also highlighted: Glory
is the full expression of this nature
which He wants to impart on His
children.
The 10
statements that declare God when Jesus
was on earth further shows the nature of
God. The chapter ends with 4 principles
that tells you why you must choose to
manifest the glory of God.
Dwelling
In The Presence of God
This chapter
shows that the glory of God can only
manifest as you choose to stay in the
presence of God. Eden with it’s Hebrew
meaning confirms this – only in the
presence of God can a man function in
the fullness of what God has made him to
be. We are told how Moses understood
this and sought His presence.
Holiness as
the condition for abiding in His
presence concludes the chapter.
To conclude
the book we look at indices that
influence our decision making processes.
To highlight the importance of choosing
right we look at the lifestyle of 2
animals – the Oyster and the Eagle; they
describe two sets of people who are out
looking for freedom and security – that
is the bottom line of our choices.
Righteousness is defined as right
standing that produces right doing while
the pursuit of security outside of God’s
will brings us into unrighteousness.
This is
living in darkness like the Oyster,
while the hardwork in the place where
God has put you is the life of the
Eagle.
God likes
little beginning, which HE displayed in
the instruction HE gave the Israelites
to gather manna only as they needed.
Obedience to this rule shows you are
humble like God is. Nature confirms this
in the ants, the conies and the locusts.
The
conclusion is: seek wealth and the
things that give you security only in
the Lord – in righteousness, that when
you will have liberty.
